field of light

The field of light  was originally conceived fifteen years ago during a trip through central Australia. The red desert had an incredible feeling of energy; ideas seemed to radiate from it along with the heat. The field of light installation was one idea that landed in my sketch book and kept on nagging at me... it just had to be done.
By placing an alien installation in the midst of nature, the enormous contrast created allows one to literally see the wood from the trees.
Under the shadow of an ancient hill in southwest England, in a field of clover bisected by a public footpath, the field of light shimmered through seasons and presented a myriad of opportunities for passersby to catch glimpses of natures guises.

animaris rhinoceros transport

from

http://www.notthisorthat.com/sblog/index.php?/archives/99-animaris-rhinoceros-transport.html

since 1990, theo jansen has been creating skeletons made of yellow electric-conduits which walk on windpower...animaris. the image above is a direct decendent of the anamaris weighing 2 tons and standing 15 feet tall, yet can be set into motion by a single person, then rely solely on the wind for power of motion.

theo studied physics at the university of delft in holland( netherlands, whatever ) from 1968-1975. he left to become an artist.

when it comes to his evolutionary creatures, theo would like to see them lead their own lives someday...in herds...on a beach. you can read a short interview of theo at artificial, photos and videos at strandbeest

Prada Transformer, Position 1: Fashion Exhibition

Rem Koolhaas’ latest project -The Prada Transformer- is not just a building, but also a statement on today´s state of architecture. Dubbed the anti-blob, this “object” rejects all common blobby shapes we have seen lately. Simple geometrical shapes (a circle, a cross, a rectangle and an hexagon) enclose a space that depending on its rotation results on different spaces suitable for fashion exhibitions, cinema, art exhibitions and other special events. Each face is the platform on which these activities take place, while also being served by the other faces enclosing the space.

Bastard Store / studiometrico

Italian practice studiometrico shared with us how they converted an old cinema in Milan, into the new Bastard flagship store, which also includes a suspended bowl and offices for Comvert.

Skateboarders dreamed place to work.

Sensational Park // Frosinone // Italy // Nabito Architects

International firm Nabito Architects were given a public commission to design a park in Frosinone, Italy. The five human senses are the main theme of the space in which materials and vegetation are related to them. The equipped green area and urban garden is due to be completed this month.

http://archurbanist.blogspot.com/2008/07/celebriturbanism.html
